Incident Report 20210730-00005 Incident Type: Operational Filer of Report: Joshua Bauer Date Filed: 07/31/2021 Date of Incident: 07/30/2021 Location of Incident: Porch; 2185 Mables Lane, Sevierville TN Persons Invoved in Incident: Joshua Bauer (operator) Devices Contributing to Incident: DJI Mini 2 Drone, ID#DR008g Factors Contributing to Incident: Lack of operator experience and understanding of the abilities of the drone being operated Damages: No damage to drone, possible scatches/distortion to propellers Description of Incident: Operator was flying drone backwards at a high velocity toward the direction of the porch from which he was operating the drone. This movement was intentional. When flying inside the porch, the operator quickly reversed feedback to propell the drone back in a forward direction before contacting the house. However, even with full opposite feedback, the adjustment was not sufficient in reversing the direction of the drone before it mad contact with the house. The drone flew into the door window at a slightly slower velocity and managed to regain its flight after the collision, with no visible damage done to the drone or to the window. Determined Causes of Incident: 1. Operator had insufficient experience and understanding of the abilities of the drone being operated, and did not accurately anticipate the extent and duration of opposite feedback required in order to reverse the direction of the drone. Imposed Regualtions Resulting from Incident: 1. Operator is not to practice stunts, as defined as any liberal maneuvers performed by the drone that do not result in a practical and worthwhile gain, in any setting where the potential monetary loss (including of surrounding property) excedes $200.00 and where the operator (a) does not have the ability to, or (b) is not willing to personally intervene and prevent a collision that could damage the drone. Imposed Recommendations Resulting from Incident: None in addition to adherance to resulting regulations Additional Information: None
